Obituary

Ruby Arvella Leftwich joined her Lord and Savior on May 25, 2020, at age 84. Her health had declined steadily after the loss of her devoted husband of 65 years, Louis J. Leftwich, on January 1st of this year.

She was born in Dallas, TX on July 11, 1935. She and Lou met in Texas, where he was stationed with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He first spotted Arvella on a cable car in Fort Worth and the two became inseparable, marrying in 1955 and living in VA and PA before settling in Orlando. She is survived by their three sons, Hal (Paula) of Oneida, TN, Bob (Ginger) of Winter Springs, FL, and Rick (Lesley) of Davidson, NC. Although she enjoyed a successful career as an Orlando real estate broker and was a competitive tennis player, her sons and her four beautiful granddaughters Laura (Jody), Ginna, Rosey and Charlotte were the highlights of her life.

Her faith sustained her, she and Lou were members of the First United Methodist Church of Winter Park and previously of the First United Methodist Church of Orlando. A true matriarch, Arvella’s commitment to her family was unfailing; she will be missed. Memorial plans are delayed due to COVID-19, please check back at this site for updated plans.

In the spirit of Arvella’s annual Christmas poems to her family:

Ruby’s light will never fade
For God’s own eye, a star is made
