Obituary

Russell J. Hinkle passed away on March 27, 2018 after an extended illness. Russell was born in West Virginia on July 21, 1923 to Russell and Mayme Hinkle. He entered the Army after his high school graduation and fought in the Battle of the Bulge under General Patton. He was discharged with a rank of Staff Sargeant at which time he continued his education at West Virginia University where he graduated with a degree in Forestry.
He worked for many years for Container Corporation of America as the Area Manager for Marion and some surrounding counties until his retirement. He was a long time member of Trinity Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Usher, Sunday School teacher and Evangelism Explosion Trainer. Although he was unable to attend during recent years because of his health, his church was very special to him.
Russell is survived by his wife, Thelma Hinkle; and two children, daughter, Nancy Holloway and her husband, Chester; and son, Tim Hinkle and his wife, Shannon; stepson, Scott Howard and his wife, Pam; as well as five grandchildren, Kimberly (Matt), Kevin, Andrew and Ashley (Mike); stepgrandson, Dylan; and five great grandchildren, Joshua, Benjamin, Laken, Landon and Savannah. He is also survived by his sister Virginia Hinkle. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Judy Mock (Robert); and stepdaughter, Shannon Kellum (Sean).
In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to Trinity Baptist Church for the proposed expansion for additional children’s space. Plans for a memorial service have not been completed.
