Obituary

Ruth Lila Squire, age 85, of Ocala, Florida, passed away on September 29th, 2019 at home with her family.

She entered the world on June 7th, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Marjorie Estelle Bradfield and Franklin Howard Stevenson. After his mother’s untimely passing, Ruth was blessed with the maternal efforts of the late Rebekah Mildred Cobb for the remainder of her childhood.

At age 17, Ruth began dating Glen Squire, future soulmate and an identical twin, an experience which provided her with many funny memories. On the morning of June 7th, 1952, Ruth and Glen were wed, then immediately headed to a different church to attend the wedding of her new brother-in-law, Gene (now deceased) and soon to be sister-in-law, Beverly (surviving). Ruth and Beverly ensured the right brother was at the right altar at the right time.

Ruth jumped at any opportunity to shop, and no one can attest to ever seeing her leave a shop or festival empty handed. She took great joy in cultivating her home, and thoroughly enjoyed giving full tours to new visitors, and sharing the latest updates with friends and family.

Ruth had bid farewell to sisters Ethelyn Minnie (Lloyd) Palmateer, Evelyn Adella (Tony) Kaminski, and Florence Mary (J.B.) Murphree as well as brother Franklin Howard Steverson, Jr. (Betty). Ruth also lost two siblings in their infancy, Marjorie and Ivan. Surviving is youngest brother Donald Lee Lloyd (Martha).

Ruth is also survived by her husband of 67 years, Glen Howard  Squire, Sr.  who made her his life’s work. In addition, her cherished children, Marlene Marie Squire, Glen Howard Squire, Jr (treasured daughter-in-law Adriana), and Karlene Kathryn Squire-Mullins, whom she lovingly introduced by saying”…..and that’s my baby”. She also leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, with the 19th arriving any day and the 20th expected in January.

In Florida, the family is being served by Baldwin Brothers Funeral Home, 11250 SW 93rd Court Rd. in Ocala. Visitation will be held on October 3rd from 11:00 am-2:00 pm and again from 4:00-5:00 pm, with a service directly afterward.

Visitation hours will be held on October 9th from 12:00 pm-9:00 pm and again on October 10th from 9:00 am-11:00 am, with a service directly afterward. Interment to follow at Grand Land Cemetery, 23501 Grand River Avenue in Detroit.

In lieu of flowers, Glen requests donations in Ruth’s name to Hospice of Marion County, PO Box 4860, Ocala, FL 34478-4860.  Arrangements by Baldwin Brothers Funerals & Cremations 11250 SW 93rd Ct. Rd. Ocala, FL 352-236-7813
