Obituary

Salvatore Franco, 72, passed away on August 17, 2022, from pneumonia. He is survived by his wife Wilma, his daughters Allyson and Donna and his sister Betty Ann.

Salvatore Franco was born in Astoria, Queens, New York on April 21, 1950.  He had a wonderful childhood growing up in Astoria with his parents, Johanna and Alexander, and his older sister Betty Ann.  He excelled in both sports and academics during his school years.  When Sal was eighteen, he started dating Wilma Del Maestro, a girl from the neighborhood where they had many mutual friends.  On September 2, 1972, Sal and Wilma were married in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Astoria.  They stayed in Astoria another three years and then purchased their first home in Bethpage, Long Island.  Their first child Allyson was born in 1977 followed by their second child Donna in 1980.  In 1986, the family adopted an English Pointer puppy that they named Petey.  Petey and Sal were inseparable until Petey had to be put down in 1999.  Sal was devastated at the loss of his best friend.  During this time, Sal worked in Brooklyn as a NY State Court Officer, commuting by railroad to work.  Later on, he transferred to the NY State Supreme Court in Mineola, Long Island, where he was promoted to Court Clerk.  In 2008, Sal and Wilma both retired from their jobs and move to Ormond Beach, Florida.

Sal was a wonderful and loving husband and father and was actively involved in the lives of his daughters.  He also was an avid sports fan, rooting for his NY Giants and his NY Mets. Sal and Wilma loved to travel and were able to go to many of the places they only dreamed of visiting.  Sal also loved to cook gourmet meals for his family and friends.  He was a man that enjoyed simple pleasures such as sitting on his lanai, smoking a good cigar with a glass of brandy, watching the birds by the feeders.  Sal loved animals and nature and enjoyed taking care of his lawn, hedges, and flowers. His positive attitude towards life was an inspiration to all that knew him.

Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 5pm, with visitation & gathering starting at 4pm, Saturday, October 1, 2022 at Baldwin Brothers Ormond Beach Chapel, 1185 W. Granada Blvd. #11, Ormond Beach, FL 32174.

With the passing of Sal, the world has lost one of the warmest, gentle, intelligent, and caring friends, father, and adoring husband. He had a voice that could calm the world around him. Our lives have been better for knowing him and calling him our friend. We will miss him greatly.
