Obituary
Sandra Elizabeth Stewart, 84, died February 15, 2023, in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Sandra attended Winter Park High School and The University of Miami with a B.S. in Industrial Management and Auburn University with an M.Ed. in Counseling. She was employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Capital Radio Wholesalers, and the East Alabama Mental Health Center where, as Emergency Services Coordinator, she helped establish a shelter for battered women and a rape crisis center.
She is survived by her long-term partner and wife of 43 years, Gertrude Havu, a stepson Peter Nichols and his fiance, Allison Cohen, a grandson, Michael Nichols as well as Allison’s two daughters, Megan and Samantha Cohen. She is also survived by Alfred Havu Sr. and his wife, Stella, Alfred Havu Jr. and his wife, Jane, David and his wife Joanne Havu, and Dwight and his wife Elizabeth Havu. She was predeceased by her parents, Alfred Blair Stewart and mary Virgin Stewart.
Per Sandra’s request, there will be no services. Memorial contributions may be made to The Spaulding Memorial Library, 282 Sebago Road in Sebago, Maine 04029, or to the East Alabama Task Force for Battered Women, PO Box 1104 in Auburn, Alabama 36831.
