Obituary
Sandra “Sandy” Loy Strohl, 77, of Tavares, Florida and recently of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 16, 2019, after a long battle with Waldenstrom Lymphoma. Sandy was born in Carlisle, PA on March 18, 1942 to William and Sarah McCullough Loy. Sandy was the only child of an only child. She graduated from thE first class of Cedar Cliff High School in Camp Hill, PA and Elizabethtown College, Elizabethtown, PA. She worked for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare for 33 years, beginning as a caseworker in Cumberland County. From 1978 to 1992, Sandy was the Director of Medicaid Eligibility and from 1992 to 1997; she was the Director of Pennsylvania’s Food Stamp Program. Sandy was a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Cathedral, Harrisburg, for over 40 years and coordinated the Flower Guild and served as wedding coordinator from 1997-2006. Sandy loved to travel and visited such places as China Hungary, Germany, Italy, Scotland, Ireland, Hong Kong, Mexico and many places in The Caribbean. Sandy is survived by her spouse The Rev. Patrick F. Strohl, step daughter Christine Strohl Layman (Richard), Deltona, FL; Stepson J. Page Strohl, Stuart, FL; three granddaughters, Isabella Charlotte and Coral and one grandson Corey (Sydney), all of Florida. Sandy is also survived by in-laws Peter and Judi Strohl of Tavares, FL and Michael and Judy Strohl of Chicago, IL as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Florida and Illinois
A Service of Thanksgiving for the life of Sandy will be held at St. James Episcopal Church, 204 Lee Street, Leesburg, FL 34748 August 31, 2019 at 11:00 am with receiving by the family at 10:00 am.
A Service of Thanksgiving for the life of Sandy will also be held at St. Stephen’s Cathedral, 221 N. Front St., Harrisburg, PA of September 21 2019 at 11:00 am with receiving by the family at 10:00 am. Sandy will be buried in Newville Cemetery in Newville, PA following the service.
