Obituary

Sara W. Peterson, 92, of Deland, Florida, passed from this life on Tuesday, February 26, 2024, after a long illness. She was born February 11, 1932, in Rutherfordton, NC to the late Andrew J. White and Effie Johnson White.

Sara was predeceased in death by her spouse, Ralph D. Peterson, and sisters, Louise W. Moore of Gaffney, SC, Tiny W. Hall of Inman, SC, and Martha W. Smith of Tacoma, WA, her son Jerry D. Peterson of Palm Coast, FL, and her daughter Glenda Peterson-Cocks of Ormond Beach, FL.

Sara is survived by two daughters, Gail P. Hart (Bobby) of Daytona Beach, FL, Judy E. Peterson of Deland, FL, her grandsons whom she adored, Chad Rhodes (Jenn) of Deland, FL and Allen D. Cocks (Kelli) or Nashville, TN, her nephew Donald Mathis (Margaret) of Arlington, VA, and her niece, Carolyn W. Messer of Gaffney, SC. Sara dearly loved her family and she always knew what they were doing.

Sara was a master gardener, and she designed and made all of her children’s clothes in their early years. She also truly loved baking.

Sara and Ralph started their life together in Chesnee, SC in 1946, and were married for 72 years when Ralph passed away. They loved their trips to Florida in the early days of their marriage and always dreamed of moving to Florida. They finally made that dream come true in 1971, moving from their long-time home in Spartanburg, SC to Daytona Beach, FL. They really flourished after making the move to Florida. Eventually all of their children also made the move to Florida.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2024, at Daytona Memorial Park in Daytona Beach, FL. The service will also be for her husband Ralph Peterson.
