Obituary
Sherrill Turner, went home to be with his Lord on March 29, 2023. He was surrounded by his family and close friends as he entered everlasting glory with his Savior Jesus Christ.
“Shel” to his close friends and family passed away peacefully at his home at the age of 90. He is survived by his wife, Amy, of 22 years, his sister Nadine, his daughter Rhonda, his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Shel was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Margaret and Louis Franklin Turner and his siblings, Lily, Jessie, Homer, Ossie , Hester, Floyd, and Hallie.
Shel was Born in Middlesboro, Kentucky on a farm. At the age of 17 he moved to Michigan to work for the Kaiser Frazer motor company and later the Ford motor company. In 1955 he was drafted into the army and spent two years in active duty during the Korean War in the Battery B 253rd AFA Bn. He served six years in the army reserve. Afterwards, he went back to work at Ford in 1957 for 17 yrs.
With a high degree of initiative Shel received schooling while he worked. Some of his most important accomplishments was earning his high school diploma at Milford High in 1971, graduating with an Associate of Arts cum laude from Oakland Community College in 1972 and earning his Bachelors of Arts in psychology from Oakland University in 1975.
Shel valued freedom – freedom to make his own decisions to work towards his own goals, and to reach his objectives by his own methods. Goal-oriented and a self-starter Shel was a licensed cosmetologist, owned his own hair salon, a French restaurant, and several residential properties. His hobbies included photography, sailing, dancing, gardening (he had a green thumb) and general handyman work around the house.
Shel loved life and people. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Mount Dora, and he loved his church community.
Sherrill Turner lived in Lake County for over 45 years. He built a home with Amy in Eustis where they enjoyed sitting on the porch looking out to a serene lake view and the fruitful garden they grew together.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 4th from 230-430pm at Baldwin Brothers – Tavares. 1350 E Burleigh Blvd, Tavares, FL 32778.
Inurnment at Florida National Cemetery Bushnell, Florida to be announced at a later date.
