Obituary
Shirlee Louise Moore Middleton ,82, of Leesburg, Florida passed away after a lengthy illness at Harbor Chase of Villages Crossing on August 16,2024. Shirlee spent her early years in North Carolina and Connecticut. After high school she attended Monroe School of Business in New York while working for IBM, Kane Miller Corporation and Penn Central Railroad. She earned an AAS in nursing at Bronx Community College and was licensed as a Registered Nurse in the states of New York, New Jersey and North Carolina.
Her career as a licensed Registered Nurse began at Professional Hospital, Yonkers, NY. She entered Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center’s Operating Room Nursing Program and worked there for several years. ln Teaneck NJ, she worked at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center and was awarded the designation of “Nurse of the Year” in 1996 when she retired. She also worked at the New Jersey Eye Center in Bergenfield, New Jersey. She pursued a BSN at St. Peters College and volunteered at the Urban League Coalition in Englewood New Jersey.
After retiring, Shirlee moved to Charlotte North Carolina and worked part-time at an out-patient eye center. Her volunteer activities in North Carolina included the Carolina Medical Center’s ER and the Presbyterian Medical Center’s ER. She volunteered at the Medical Assistance Office ordering medications for qualified senior citizens, and at Meals on Wheels.
When Shirlee moved to Leesburg, Florida she volunteered at Leesburg Regional Medical Center and was a mentor for Take Stock in Children and was a member of Clermont Women for a number of years.
Shirlee previously lost her husband of 53 years, Joe Nathan Middleton. She is survived by their son, Damon Todd Middleton, a sister, Sarah Fauntroy, a brother Edgar Moore and Mary Moore and a host of nephews, nieces and friends.
Shirlee was an extraordinary wife, mother to Damon, aunt, sister, and beloved friend. She was a contributing community member that freely shared her talents and skills with others. She will be missed by all.
A Celebratory Luncheon will be held on Tuesday September 16, 2024
at Perkins Leesburg on Route 27 at 12 noon.
