Obituary

Shirley Ann (Crotinger) Baker left this earth on December 17, 2012 with her three children and family by her side. When she was able, Shirley kept busy with crafting. She loved sewing, painting, crocheting, poetry and dabbled in upholstery. With her husband working for a major airline it was hard for her to have a permanent job due to moving to many states. When she did work she worked at a craft boutique, The Gap Warehouse, Hallmark, at a school, Kresky’s Five and Dime, but her most important was being a wife and mother. Shirley loved big family get togethers. It usually consisted of lots of food, laughing and playing cards or other games. Family was important to her and she always wished she could see them more. One of Shirley’s favorite places she lived was in Missouri. She and her husband, Joe, loved entertaining at the “Sugar Shack” on the Mississippi River. Shirley was ill for the last few years. New Smyrna Beach VITAS Hospice truly helped her during this time. Three of their employees meant the world to her: Chaplin Laura Berg, Nurse Aid Susan Fiaschi and Nurse Kelly Roberts. They spent a great deal of time caring, laughing, singing and praying with her. Shirley is survived by her children Robin (Danny ) Fields, Jolene (Gary) Messmer, Brett Baker, grandchildren  Chris (Nikki) Houze, Justin (Holly) Houze, Amie(Rusty) Young, Michael Combs, great grandchildren Jordan, Faith, Josh, Landon, Xavier and Layla. Shirley joined her husband Joe, parents Ralph and Viola Crotinger, sisters, Gladys Shaner, Margaret Frazier and Jean Leckey in heaven, and leaving other siblings until their time, Ruby Kurtz and David Crotinger. Shirley is and was a lovely, caring woman and will always be remembered in our hearts and minds.
