Shirley Irene (Duvall) Salimbene, 91, of Winter Park, Florida, died Thursday Dec. 1st, 2022, peacefully at her home. She was born September 22, 1931, in New Athens, Ohio, daughter of the late William Ernest and Rosa Pearl (Fluharty) Duvall. Shirley was a lifelong resident of Belmont County but relocated in 2019 to Florida to be closer to her family.
Shirley retired as a nursing supervisor at Martins Ferry Hospital, after working 40 years. She stayed active with her fellow nursing classmates and nurses that she had worked with over the years until she moved to Florida.
In later years she enjoyed visiting with friends (and a little exercise) at the Wellness Center and many visits from family. She was an active quilter and knitter after retirement and after moving to Florida simply enjoyed spending time with family and watching Hallmark movies.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Rocco; two brothers, William Audren and Leonard Alan; and two sisters Helen Jean Saffell and Mary Ann Lucas.
Shirley is survived by her three sons: Rory and wife Rebecca of Altamonte Springs, Florida, Mark and husband William McCormick of Martinez, California, and Bruce and wife Cindy of Plain City, Ohio. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren: Audra, Jacob, Alexa, Leah, Eric, Joshua and Cameron and six great-grandchildren.
A grave side service for family members will be held Saturday March 18, 2023, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Joe Ellis officiating at Holly Memorial Gardens, 73360 Pleasant Grove Road, Colerain, Ohio, where she will be interred next to her beloved husband. A Celebration of Life reception for family and friends will follow at 2 p.m. at Undo’s West restaurant located at 51130 National Road, St. Clairsville, Ohio.
