Obituary
Sonia Minde-Newton, 67, passed on January 5, 2021 in St. Augustine, Fla., following a fierce battle with bile duct cancer. She was born on February 26, 1953 in Auburn, NY. She said that the only good thing about being diagnosed was having the time to write her own tribute.
Sonia was a nurse for 30 years, co-owned a trucking company with her husband Rusty and then alongside her husband, raised Texas Longhorn cattle and operated a horse farm. With a love and eye for design, she also started her own fabrication business. Her family will cherish the many custom pillow covers and window coverings she made for them.
Sonia is survived by a wonderful loving husband, Rusty Newton; two beautiful daughters, Gentry Baumline-Robinson (David) and Jess McGuirk (Jason); three precious grandchildren, Payton Robinson, Truman McGuirk and Isla McGuirk; two stepsons, Brian Newton (Matt) and Christopher Newton (Erica); two step grandchildren, Astrid Newton and Juniper Newton; her kind and loving sisters, Joan Minde-Welch and Susan K. Minde, a niece, Mindy Kozlowski (Ed) and nephews Jamie Welch (Missy) and Thom Meehan (Stacey). She is predeceased by her parents Alice and Bud Minde.
The family will hold a private service to celebrate Sonia’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sonia’s name to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital – www.StJude.org.
My condolences to her entire family.
