Obituary

Stephen Frank Carter, 62, of Ocala, Florida, a beloved husband, father, brother, son, and friend passed away November 13, 2022, in the loving company of his family.

Steve was born on September 10, 1960, to David Carter Sr. and Mary Jane Carter in Milwaukee, WI.  Steve’s childhood years were enjoyed in Menominee Falls, WI and in Ripon, WI.  He was on the cross-country track team and graduated from Ripon Senior High School in 1979.  He graduated from California State University of Long Beach with an Economics Degree in 1988.  He then went on to work for FedEx as a Logistics Manager.  He ascended to the top of his field as a Terminal Manager, overseeing operations, fleet, personnel and all those holiday packages.  He climbed the ladder making several moves to larger and larger markets with FedEx.  Although Steve retired in 2015, he never slowed down.

In 1992 Steve met Lisa Merrick in Clearwater, FL.  They were married on November 19, 1994 and remained blissfully married for the rest of his life.  They added to their family on June 23, 1996, when Harley Maxwell Carter was born and then later on May 24th, 1997 when Austin Riley Carter born.

Steve loved sky diving, hiking, and motorcycling the Ocala countryside once retired.  He was always very active in his community church.  He was known for his broad smile, humor, quick wit, ace pickleball skills, golfing in the weeds, playing Sheepshead (a card game), and for his very long walks – up to 5 miles a day.  Steve was an avid reader, sometimes reading a book in a few days. Most recently he was actively pursuing becoming involved with the Kairos Prison Ministry.

Steve is preceded in death by his father: David Carter Sr.  Survived by his wife, the love of his life, Lisa Carter; his children: “Max” Carter and Austin Carter.  He is also survived by his mother; Mary Jane Carter, sister; Jackie Carter, sister; Cathy Eason, brother; David Carter, and sister; Jennifer Sina. Along with many adored nieces, nephews, and extended family.

A “Celebration of Life” service will be held on Saturday, December 3rd, 2022, at 10 am at Meadowbrook Church in Ocala (4741 SW 20th Street, Ocala, FL 34474, in Room 405).  Family and friends are invited to come to share fond memories and stories.  A reception will follow at the Carter’s home.

I am deeply sorry for your loss of someone so dear to your heart. I am not certain if we have met or not but I am Sara and Amy’s aunt. Such a young person taken to soon. May your family find strength and love amongst each other during this difficult time. We may not remain on this physical earth forever but memories are the “GIFT” left behind that allow us to never forget him and to allow us to remember the good times and “LAUGH” at all the silly times.
