Obituary

Stephen Franklin Nix, 59, of South Daytona, FL passed away on February 13, 2016 at the Halifax Hospice Care Center, Port Orange.  Stephen was born January 10, 1957 in Ft. Belvoir, VA to Bobby and Ada Dean Gioia Nix.  He was a 1975 graduate of Mainland High School and a veteran of the United States Air Force.  Stephen enjoyed swimming, surfing, running, playing basketball, and he adored his grandson.  He was a retired Volusia County Beach Patrol Officer, serving the community for over 28 years.  Stephen is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Phoebe (Margrill) Nix.  Additional survivors include his daughter, Erin McGuire (Jordan); his mother, Ada Dean Nix; brother, Mark Nix (Caren); sister, Dena Townsend (Alan); grandson, Jude McGuire; sister-in-law, Trish Nix; 3 nieces, 1 great niece, 2 great nephews, 2 uncles, and 2 aunts, and many cousins.  Stephen was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Nix and his brother Barry Scott Nix.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Stephen to the Volusia Surf Lifesaving Association.  Arrangements are in the care and trust of Baldwin Brothers Funerals and Cremations, Port Orange, FL.  There will be church services at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 216 Orange Ave, Daytona Beach, FL 32114 on Saturday March 5th, at 2:00pm.  Stephen’s ashes will be released over the ocean at a future date and time to be determined.
