Obituary

It is with earth shattering sadness that we announce the passing of Stephen Edward Odom on November 11th, 2024, at the age of 73. Stephen was born in 1951 in Atlanta, Georgia, to Sarah and Marion Odom.

Stephen served in the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army as a paratrooper. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Georgia State University with excellent grades and a strong passion for business. He was extremely intelligent with such a wonderfully bright and unique mind. Throughout his life, he continued to excel and achieve great success with several different companies including Mission Critical, Solarc, and Price Waterhouse.

One of Stephen’s greatest senses of accomplishment came from his three sons Jason, Stephen, and Cody Odom. Stephen had the joy (and great success) of coaching all three sons little league baseball teams. Throughout his life, he instilled strong passions in all of his sons’ lives. Jason and Cody inherited his love of sports, which brings them great joy to this day. Stephen picked up his love for Live Music, which helped shape his life and career. All three boys went on to be passionate about business with a work ethic that their father Stephen instilled in them.

Stephen found the love of his life when he married Lisa Odom in 2012. They went on to have a joy filled life together for many years. The two of them loved to travel, enjoyed live entertainment, golfing, and a shared passion for food. But above all, they shared their love for their families and children together. Lisa would become an integral part of Stephen’s sons lives, and Stephen a huge part of Michael, Kaylee, and Faith, Lisa’s children’s, lives. Together, they exemplified to their children “family comes first.”

Preceded in joining the Lord: Mother & Father, Sarah and Marion Odom; brother Ron Odom; and sister Teresa Odom.

Survived by: wife Lisa Odom; sons Jason Odom, Stephen Thomas Odom, and Cody Odom; stepson Michael Crighton; stepdaughters Kaylee and Faith Crighton; grandchildren Hayley and Ashlyn Odom; and former spouses Treva Reeves and Wanda Odom.

Stephen Odom, a beacon of humor and love, will live on forever in our hearts. His legacy, exemplified by his love for his family; his love for music, sports, comedy, fashion, food, the list goes on; his passion and successes in business, will continue to inspire and guide us. As we mourn the loss of his physical presence, we find peace knowing that his spirit lives on forever in the memories and moments we all cherish.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to Tunnel to Towers Foundation or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Stephen’s name.

We are planning a celebration of life for Stephen in 2025 in The Woodlands TX area, more details to follow.

Very saddened to hear of Steve's passing. I had the opportunity to work with and get to know Steve at a couple companies based in Houston, LBMS and MCS. Both in the office and on the road, I learned a great deal from him. I recall when starting a company, Steve said, "When you are in Houston next, let's meet up to talk numbers." I took him up on his offer, and as I remember, we met at Pappasito’s for what turned out to be a very long lunch. Steve and I stayed connected for the next few years by phone, and I can say I would not have been able to make sense of the financials and building a business without his help. "Show graphs that go up and to the right," he would say. It was great not only to work together but also to become friends!

Had a blessing to spend a full weekend with uncle Steve, Jason and I just this past NFL playoffs season.
We sat around all weekend and watched football and did nothing!

What an awesome time and fully blessed to have had that opportunity spend that time with Unck Steve...

See you in paradise, my good Dude!

Steve, as those of us who were not his family called him, was so many things to me and others who worked with him over the years. I lucked into a relationship with Steve at LBMS and tried hard to never let him get too far from whatever projects I was working on. I had been a tech CEO for a few years before I met Steve. But at LBMS we had little choice but to find a path to work together effectively. Maybe it was helped by the fact that I lived 3 hours away so he would only need to put up with me when I showed up at the office. But in simple terms, Steve made me a significantly better CEO as my right hand guy across 3 different companies. One of the investors who we worked with on numerous deals comment just last week was, "Odom and Bennett together were simply magic". That's how it seemed to me as well. He was always a step ahead of me offering advice or recommendations, and when I landed on a direction he would insure that the organization was going down the same path. But more than that, Steve became a very close friend. One of those relationships that you cherish for a lifetime. He was my friend, my work partner, and I loved him and I miss him. All the best Lisa as I know you are devastated, and also to his sons who I'm certain look back on their time with him as so very special in their lives.
