Obituary

Stuart Ashburn Gilleland was born in Bronxville, New York on October 5, 1956 and passed away at his
home in Oviedo, Florida on July 16, 2022. Stuart moved to Winter Park, Florida at the age of 8 and
attended Lakemont Elementary, Maitland Jr. High School, Winter Park Jr. High School and Winter Park
High School. He was an extremely hard worker, dedicated and determined to provide for his family as a
welder. Through his trade he made very notable contributions to various projects and buildings
throughout Central Florida. He was particularly proud of his custom work at Disney World, Orange
County Convention Center, and on Park Avenue in Winter Park.

Stuart was married to Donda Aleshire Gilleland and his injury-related retirement corresponded with her
diagnosis of MS. Stuart was her primary caregiver until her death in 2011 after 31 years of marriage. He
is survived by his daughters Alecia Marie Gilleland, Crystal Gay Spannagel (Chance), and Leana Lynn
Gilleland; his grandchildren Cadacia Marie Castillo and Kirk Eric Douglas, Jr.; mother Betty Elmore
Gilleland; sisters Gay Gilleland Erwin (Phil) and Lynn Gilleland Hawkins (John); nephews Matthew
Macleod Hawkins and Andrew Matheson Hawkins; parents-in-law Don and Darlene Aleshire; sister-in-
law Kathy Kyle and many aunts. uncles and cousins. He was also predeceased by his father Guy Wynne
Gilleland.

Stuart’s passions were spending time with his family, his friends, his lifetime of many pets, blasting his
rock music, being a huge movie enthusiast, his love for cars and shows, gardening and giving out his
home grown veggies, competitive grilling/smoking, and his wide variety of collections. He was very
humble and giving by nature. He loved people and was always willing to lend a helping hand to
someone in need, even in spite of his chronic pain. Stuart never met a stranger, initiating conversations
with everyone he met, trying to make their day a little bit better.

Memorial Service is Wednesday, August 24, 2022, 11:00 AM at Maitland Presbyterian Church, 341 N. Orlando Avenue, Maitland, FL in the main sanctuary.

Donations in Stuart’s memory may be made to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida, 101 E. Colonial Drive,

Sucks to hear you're gone. I remember all the times I'd go over to help you with your computer and ended up staying way later than I intended because we'd just be talking. Sorry I didn't make it, I should've been more active in trying to find out when it was held. See you on the other side
