Susan was my professor and best friend. Not only was she a near genius in the science of glazing and firing ceramics, she was a wonderful artist whose works were filled with the warmth of her kind personality. So many times in my life Susan came to my rescue when I was sick, or up against a deadline beyond my reach, or just needed the touchstone of a wise friend. A devout discipline of Buddha (I guess), she was filled with compassion and through our many phone conversations, she would share her wisdom, helping me maintain my balance in the world. There is not a day I do not miss her. She was a life well lived and I owe her a great deal. It was my great privilege to have been her friend.

Susan helped me move from my Upper East Side NYC apartment to another( Park Avenue) apartment after the death of my beloved husband. She was married to my sister who was very happy with her. Although the couple never visited me in NewYork, they invited us to their stylishly rebuilt home in Connecticut. Susan had a wit that made family gatherings "bearable", in her words.
