March 30,1938-June 26,2022

Tal Leonard, age 84, of Fort Myers, Florida passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, June 26, 2022, with his lovely bride Kathie by his side.

Tal was born in Jacksonville, Florida and lived most of his life in Miami, Florida. Tal was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp., which he called one of his proudest achievements. Tal attended the University of Miami where he was the first family member to graduate from college. Following college, Tal was employed by State Farm Insurance Company where he owned his own State Farm Insurance Agency franchise for over 32 years.  Following retirement he relocated to Fort Myers, Florida to be near his son and family.

He is survived by his wife, Katherine of 22 years, his son Michael and wife Valerie, their children, Wesley and Wyatt, his daughter Cindy, her children, Ashley and Britney and four great-grandchildren. Katherine’s children Mark and wife Paulette, Connie and husband Scott, grandchildren Katherine, Mathew, Kristen, Jennifer, Cody, Danny, David and Dale. Also, five great-grandchildren.

Tal had a lifelong passion for everything water related, growing up in South Florida. He was an avid boater, diver and fisherman. He was also a fishing guide and loved to take clients to Flamingo and all places in Florida Bay. Tal often said, “God does not subtract from one’s life, the time spent on fishing.” For that, he was true to his word in every sense.

At his request no services will be held.

    A letter to Kathie
    Dear Kathie,

Our friendship with you and Tal over these years has been such a rich and joyful time. When we met you and saw not only how much Tal loved you but your grace and adoring of him, we were convinced that you both were the perfect couple. You both brought so much joy to so many people. Bob has known Tal for over 50 years and the stories they could tell- most adventures sea and boat related. You, Kathie, helped to bring out the joy in his heart. We would watch how he would smile and look at you, shake his head and say, “Bob, I got a winner here.”
Thank you, Kathie, for bringing out the life and love in Tal’s heart by your unending devotion.
    Love,
    Bob and Elaine Collins

We have known Kathi and Tal for over a decade. We have spent many dinners community events and boating excursions together in Fort Myers.
Tal led the life he wanted and never lacked sharing his stories and enthusiasm with everyone . He adored his wife Kathi and her feelings for him were mutual.
Tal was a lover of puttering on his boats. The neighborhood will feel a great loss but before his passing, he knew Kathi would be safe , protected and included always in our little community . Have a great heavenly journey Tal! Kathy and Bud Robitaille.
