Teresa Rutland, 61, of Daytona, FL, passed away on August 17, 2024. Born on June 3, 1963, in Rome, GA, she spent her childhood in Ocoee, FL, before dedicating her life to helping others as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
Teresa earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Social Work from the University of Central Florida in 1996, graduating Magna Cum Laude. Her career in social work spanned various roles, including serving at Winter Park High School, providing compassionate care in Hospice, and ultimately supporting veterans at the Veteran Affairs. Throughout her career, Teresa touched the lives of countless individuals with her energetic and charismatic spirit.
She was a loving mother to Tony Ryan Hood and a grandmother to Nora and Nolan Hood. Teresa is also survived by her beloved mother Sue Young, her stepfather William Young, her sister Mashilla Swain, and her faithful dog Spankey. Known for her free spirit, deep spirituality, and charitable nature, Teresa was not just a mother to her son but a mother to many who were fortunate enough to know her. She was a lover of animals and will be remembered for her beauty, fun-loving personality, and unwavering faith.
A memorial service to celebrate Teresa’s life will be held on Friday, August 23rd, at 10:00 AM at Baldwin Brothers Funeral & Cremation Society, 1 North Causeway, New Smyrna Beach, FL. Following the service, friends and family are invited to gather at JB’s Fish Camp, 859 Pompano Avenue, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32169, to continue celebrating Teresa’s life. Those who wish to honor her memory with flowers are kindly asked to send them directly to the funeral home.
Teresa will be deeply missed by many who were touched by her love, kindness, and generous spirit. Her family will carry her deeply in their hearts.
My sister Teresa Rutland was always my sissy. You were more than my sister…you were my best friend! I will love you forever. Sissy we were different flowers from the same garden. Teresa leaves behind a legacy of compassion, an incredible personality, and was a great story teller! I will love you always Sissy.
