Thelma Aponte, 85, of New Smyrna Beach died at home peacefully on Saturday, April 10, 2010 with her family by her side. Thelma was born February 10, 1925 in Villalba, Puerto Rico. She worked for 23 years at Aldens Inc Chicago, Illinois. Thelma enjoyed reading, gardening, music and sewing. She was the matriarch of the family and dearly loved for her loving nature and quiet strength. All who met her were drawn to her. Thelma had a way of making people feel better about themselves when they were around her. She was joyful, positive and selfless, always thinking of others. We miss her in so many ways, but mostly we miss her laughter and love. She will always be with us at the center of our hearts.
Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Antonio Zayas. She is survived by her loving children, Marisel (Brandon) Smithe of New Smyrna Beach and Antonio (Millie) Zayas of DeKalb, IL; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; surviving brothers and sisters, Santin Aponte, Antonia Marin, Virgenmina Diaz, Domingo Aponte, Gladys Alvarado and Vicente Aponte.
