Thiep Thi Hoang, 77
Thiep Thi Hoang passed peacefully on April 24, 2013 at her home in Winter Park, FL.
Thiep was born in 1936, in Thai Binh Province, a small village in Vietnam. She is the daughter of the late Quy Hoang and Rieu Vu, and the sister of the late Lich Tran.
A loving wife and a giving mother, Thiep cherished family time, road trips and reunions. A consummate homemaker, Thiep was an excellent cook and a generous hostess. She warmly welcomed guests in her home and gave with an unconditional heart. Thiep loved nature and was a staunch champion for animal causes, being especially fond of dogs and turtles.
In 1960, Thiep married the love of her life, Bon Van Ung. They lived in Saigon until 1975 when they immigrated to the US. As refugees, a Lutheran church in Jackson, MI helped to resettle her family. Led by the late Mr. Hampton Pullis and Mrs. Enid Pullis, Bon and Thiep began their new lives with their four children. Years later, inspired by the kindness of their sponsors, Bon and Thiep created their own foundation of goodwill projects.
Thiep is survived by her spouse and children; Dac (Hieu) Ung, Orlando, FL; Hoan (Dean) Valdez, Morgan City, LA; Thang Ung, Boston, MA; Hien (Erik Lindfors) Ung, Austin, TX, and two loving grandchildren, Ian and Kyle Valdez.
There was a private Buddhist service on April 27, 2013 for immediate family members and close friends at the Winter Park Chapel (see photos). Following the traditions of ancestral worship, symbolic gestures of offerings were made to Thiep. As an expression of filial piety, her children bowed to her altar. In the Vietnamese culture, family members wear white headbands to indicate mourning.
Part of Thiep's ashes will be placed in a temple in her childhood village. She and her sister had it built in memory of their parents. The remainder will be placed at a temple in Orlando. The family wishes to thank all of those who lovingly cared for her during her illness, as well as relatives and friends whose thoughts and prayers deeply touched Thiep and her family.
I never met your Mother but I know she had to be a wonderful lady as to have a wonderful daughter as you.
I hope you ,your Father and Family will find comfort
and peace in all the memories of her.
