Obituary

THOMAS CLIFTON LOVE, lovingly known as TC, left this world
unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, in The Villages, Florida. Born
on September 23, 1949, in Agana, Guam, TC was a cherished son of Lloyd
C. Love and Elizabeth Love, spending his early years in Colonial Heights,
Virginia. Graduating from Virginia public schools, he then embarked on a
twelve-year service in the United States Navy, where he found his shipmate for life on the USS Sanctuary (AH-17), Marguerite “Penny” Wernig, whom he married on December 21,1974. In addition, their dedicated naval service took them aboard the USS Dupont, USS Constitution, USS Holland and NAS Brunswick.
TC and Penny started their family in Everett, MA, moving to Kilmun,
Scotland, Lisbon Center, ME, Stinson Lake, NH and ultimately residing in
Manchester, NH, before retiring to The Villages. He leaves behind his
beloved wife of 49 years, Marguerite Wernig Love (Penny), and a lasting
legacy through his children and their spouses: Jennifer Love-Marriott and
Chief Petty Officer Ryan Marriott, USN of Riverview, FL; Heather Love and
Adriano Sereno of Rome, Italy; and Ryan Love and Peter Westphaelen of
Tacoma, Washington. TC also leaves behind a host of extended family and
friends who will forever miss his presence. TC especially enjoyed visiting
the Plymouth, NH area spending time with his brothers-in-law, and many
nieces and nephews. TC shared an unbreakable bond with his cherished
friend and sister-in-law, Karen Wernig McLoud, a friendship marked by
unwavering support, camaraderie, and a profound connection that
transcended friendship, making them true siblings of the heart.
During his time in Manchester, TC worked with the United States Post
Office and earned a Bachelor’s degree from Southern NH University. He
took great pride in his family’s accomplishments, fostering cherished
memories during their travels across the United States, the United
Kingdom, and Europe. TC was renowned for his profound generosity, quick
wit, passion for music, literature, and art, as well as his trademark snarky
sense of humor.
As a bassist in the “Chuck Steak Blues Band,” TC brought joy to his naval
comrades. He had a diverse taste in music, appreciating everything from
Progressive Rock to Classical. When not playing music himself, he
dedicated his time to supporting his son’s musical pursuits.
TC was the ultimate taste tester in Penny’s kitchen, relishing every meal
she prepared. He maintained a love-hate relationship with golf, sharing
countless memorable moments with his golf partners. In retirement, TC and
Penny made The Villages in Florida their home, where he poured his
energy into maintaining their yard and cultivating friendships with fellow
“village people.”
Thomas Clifton Love will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and
friend, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, generosity, and laughter. His
absence creates a void that will be keenly felt by those fortunate enough to
have known him. May he rest in peace.
