Obituary
Thomas J. Dix, 78 of The Villages, Florida, died Monday, May 10, 2021 at Cornerstone Hospice. Born on March 19, 1943 in Dayton, Ohio, he was the son of the late John M. and Suzann (Thies) Dix. Thomas was a graduate of Stebbins High School. He served in the Air Force as a communications specialist, and was also a member of the Evreux baseball team which traveled and played throughout Europe. Thomas retired from AT&T after 26 years, and then worked briefly for Charles F. Jergens Construction in the Dayton, Ohio area. Following his retirement, he and his wife moved from Lewisburg, Ohio to The Villages. There he became a parishioner of St. Timothy Catholic Church where he volunteered as a home-helper. He played softball, golfed regularly, and enjoyed fishing and boating in the nearby lakes. Thomas loved the outdoors and spent much of his time gardening and bird watching. He was a man of many talents.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his stepmother, Dorothy F. (Meyer) Petkewicz Dix; his sister, Suzann (Dix) Wirrig; and his brothers-in-law, Lawrence Beck and Arthur Sidell.
Thomas is survived by his wife of 53 years, Colette F. (Walker) Dix; his only child, Jennifer (Jeff) Vail; his only grandchild, Makenna Vail; his siblings, William (Maggie) Petkewicz, Mary Beck, Jane Dix, Helen (Fred) Damm, Robert (Vicki) Petkewicz, Ann Sidell, and Dottie (Doug) Gibson; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
A Memorial Mass will be held on June 11, 2021, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at St. Timothy Catholic Church. Reception to follow at La Hacienda Recreation Center.
