Obituary

Thomas Flanary passed away on Saturday, March 27th, 2021, after a lengthy illness and is now at peace. He was born in Milwaukee on February 24, 1951. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Dr. John and Ilene Flanary and younger sister, Susan Reidy. He is survived by siblings: Michael, Timothy, Patrick and Kelly Ann.

Tom graduated from Wauwatosa West High School, class of 1968 and Carrol College. Growing up in Milwaukee, Tom was a great older brother. He was kind, considerate and always watched out for his younger brothers and sisters. he had many interests: serving as an altar boy at Christ King Catholic Church, competing on the Wauwatosa West Swim Team, sailing and especially skiing. He was very proud of his skiing ability and served many years on the Ski Patrol at Little Switzerland, near Milwaukee.

My last conversation with him was of how much he loved skiing and dearly, missed it. Since mountains play such a major role throughout Sacred Scripture, I am certain that today he is enjoying the snow covered slopes in heaven and is probably a proud member of the “Heavenly Ski Patrol.”

He worked for many years at the John Crane Co. in Houston Texas in sales and engineering. After retiring he moved to Cape Coral, FL. When he was living in an assisted living facility, my brother Tom was the ‘go to guy,’ if any resident needed help with computers or really any mechanical device. He told me how happy he was when each Christmas, he would dress up as Santa for the residents and workers Christmas Parties. Nothing made him happier than prompting a smile or a laugh from a child or a resident. He was always ready with a joke or a story.

Funeral arrangements have not been finalized. His passing is sad, but remember that he no longer is tethered to a body that was failing him and that makes all of us joyous, on his behalf.
