Obituary
Thomas James Bernsdorf (Tom) of Astor, Florida passed away peacefully April 5, 2018 at Florida Memorial Hospital surrounded by family at age 84.
Tom is survived by his wife, Ellen Russell Bernsdorf; 3 children, Ronald, Dean, Victoria Siegler and a step son Brian Russell (Dee); 13 grandchildren, Dylan, Dalton, Kelly, Michael, Jacob, Kami, Khari, Justin, Joshua, Jordan, Thomas, Joshua, and Jamie, 9 great grandchildren, a number of nieces & nephews, extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Donald & Violet Bernsdorf of Buffalo New York, a sister Judith of Goose Creek, South Carolina, and 1st wife Carole Shaw Bernsdorf of Holly Hill Florida.
Tom was born on February 12, 1934 in Buffalo New York and worked at various occupations while raising his family, as well as, serving his country in the United States Army. Tom was an accomplished woodworker and was often found creating in his shop. When Tom wasn’t building in his shop, he could be found with a fishing rod in hand with friends and family on the Saint Johns River or on the Chesapeake Bay. He was an avid Buffalo Bills and Sabers fan (regardless of their record). However, Tom will be most remembered for his sense of humor, his distinct laugh and the love he had for his “sweetie”, his family and friends.
There are not enough words to truly express the family’s appreciation and gratitude to Tom’s close-knit group of friends (you know who you are) who have loved and assisted without reservation with anything and everything. You were all very special to him and Tom loved each of you dearly, as we know you loved him.
In addition, the family would like to express their most sincere thanks to the members of his medical team and his hospice caregivers who took such diligent care of him.
A short memorial service is scheduled for 2 PM Monday April 16, 2018 at the Astor Community Center located at 24148 Ann Street in Astor Florida 32102, followed by a reception for all to attend to celebrate Tom’s life.
