Obituary

Thomas Joseph O’Sullivan, Age 79, of The Villages, FL died on January 12, 2022 peacefully in Leesburg, Florida surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Chicago, IL on May 3, 1942 to Irish immigrant parents Thomas and Margaret. Tom was a proud graduate of St. Ignatius High School in Chicago. He put himself through college graduating with an undergraduate degree in Marketing from Xavier University, an MBA from DePaul University and an Executive MBA at Kellogg School of Business, Northwestern University. In college, he was a member of the Golden Grainers. He proudly served his country with honor and distinction in the United States Army with the rank of 1st Lieutenant and Company Battery Commander in the 92nd Artillery group, Fort Bragg. While residing in Naperville, IL for a majority of his adult life, his professional career spanned over 3 decades with Peoples Gas in Chicago culminating in being appointed Vice President of Sales and Marketing and an Officer of the company. Upon his retirement, Tom utilized his outgoing personality and gift of gab to pursue other interests by working at Cantigny Golf Course in Wheaton, IL and as a bartender at Quigley’s Irish Pub in Naperville. Tom and his wife relocated to The Villages, FL in 2013 and continued to be active by volunteering in his church (St Vincent de Paul) and with Operation Shoebox to support our deployed military personnel.

Tom was married to the love of his life (Jeanne) for 55 years. One of his greatest loves and proudest accomplishments was having and raising five boys (Dan, Mike, Ryan, Sean and T.J.) and one girl (Kelly) “the rose amongst the thorns”. Tom loved and adored his five daughter-in-laws (Martha, Kathy, Jodi, Courtney and Su) and one son-in-law (Kevin) as his own. His 15 grandchildren (Megan, Erin, Brendan, Aidan, Miranda, Brady, Nicole, Alec, Mara, Rory, Riley, Hayden, Sarsha, Colman and Cassidy) brought him great joy and happiness. Tom loved golf and actively tracked and invested in the financial markets. As an avid sports fan, Tom cherished opportunities to spend time with friends and family attending or watching Chicago sporting events especially the Bears, White Sox, Blackhawks, Bulls and Xavier University Men’s basketball.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Margaret O’Sullivan, his beloved Aunt Betty Travers, brothers-in-law Justin Jankiewicz, Ed Janis and sister-in-law Peggy Dziedzic. Tom is survived by his wife Jeanne who resides in The Villages, FL; son Dan (Martha) in Lithia, FL; son Mike (Kathy) in Cumming, GA; daughter Kelly (Kevin DeLongchamp) in Algonquin, IL; son Ryan (Jodi) in Dublin, OH; son Sean (Courtney) in Glenview, IL and son T.J. (Su) in LaGrange Park, IL; and sisters Margaret Jankiewicz and Patricia Janis.
Due to the on-going COVID pandemic, Memorial services (Saints Peter and Paul Church – Naperville), Internment (Saints Peter and Paul cemetery) and a Celebration of Tom’s life will be delayed until May 2022 with final dates and details forthcoming.

For any memorial contributions Tom’s charities for personal reasons are: Autism Foundation, Alzheimer’s Foundation, and Wounded Warriors Project.
