Obituary

Thomas Dudley Sherman, 76, went to his eternal home on Sunday, August 21st, 2022.  Tom was born in Louisville, Kentucky on December 19, 1945.  He was the second son of Wade Hampton and Edythe Arnold Sherman.  As a youth, Tom received the coveted God and Country Award and also became an Eagle Scout as part of troop 314 at St. Matthews United Methodist Church where he was a lifetime member. Tom graduated from Waggener High school in 1964, attended the University of Kentucky and graduated from the University of Central Florida in 1978.  Tom joined the United States Army in 1964, serving at Kagnew Station in Ethiopia as a member of the Army Security Agency (ASA). After his active duty he joined the 138th Aviation Co. where he was deployed in Desert Storm.  Upon returning, he transferred to the 337th unit.  He also completed his training with the 82nd airborne division and received his Wings, oldest in his class, aged 48.   Tom also worked as an Orlando Police Officer. He retired from the United States post office.  He was a proud member of the NALC union for 30 years where he held multiple offices, including President.  Tom will always be remembered for his constant generosity, tireless wit, and occasionally mischievous nature.

Tom was preceded by his parents and survived by his daughters, Melissa Souster of Edmonton, AB Canada, Cherie Sherman of Orlando, FL and Kimberly Skipper (Jason) of Sanford, FL; his grandchildren, Jackson Souster, Keaton Souster, Mikinzie Sherman and Thomas Charles Skipper; his siblings, D. Terrill Sherman (Millie) of San Ramon, CA, Richard A. Sherman (Marilyn) of Sikeston, MO., William W. Sherman (Gayle) of Louisville KY;  Kathryn H. Sherman of Owensboro, KY and Barbara A. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday August 27, 2022 at 3pm at Grace United Methodist Church in Lake Mary, FL where Tom attended for many years.  In lieu of flowers, Tom’s wish was that donations be made to either Tunnel to Towers Foundation or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
