Obituary
“Captain Tim” Cunningham passed in peace at the age of 72 on May 14, 2019. Tim was former husband and cherished friend of Virginia A. Cunningham, and dear friend and long-time companion of Tina Prescott.
Tim was a loving father to his children Laura, Rebecca, Timothy, Frances, Sharon, Anne, Daniel, Christopher, David, Gigi, Maria, and Julie. Tim was also a proud grandfather to Nick, Trey, Stevie, Mac, Sammy, Bailey, Robyn, Cole, Casey, Brady, Alex, Garrett, Val, Hudson, Camryn, Scarlett, Colton, Cecilia, Eleanor, Lucas, Ruby, and Benjamin.
Tim was brother to Maureen, Dennis, and Peter and was further survived by nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends who will sadly miss him.
Tim will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a hardworking, self-taught, loving father and grandfather who was Captain of many sailing vessels over his lifetime. Tim was an excellent trumpet player who enjoyed singing and listening to opera, jazz, big band music, and Kenny G. Tim was a world traveling, motor cycle riding, former chef who loved practical jokes and the sun. Tim had an aversion to wearing socks, was a certified scuba instructor, and loved fishing. Tim served his country proudly, having joined the Army after graduating high school, continued his career as a defense contractor, and retired doing what he loved– sailing on the ocean. Tim was a simple man with a strong faith in the Catholic Church, who was a good friend to all, and was always a man who would give his shirt for a friend.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm at Saint Mary’s Star of the Sea Church located in Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, followed by a burial service at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 2:00 pm. Reception to follow at 4:00 pm in Centerville, Massachusetts
