Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Timothy M. Smith, a beloved father, brother, and friend, who left this world on September 27, 2025, at the age of 70. Timothy was born on May 1, 1955, in Peoria, Illinois, to Ralph Eugene Smith and Kathy Lopez. He was a man whose spirit touched the lives of many, and his memory will forever be cherished by all who knew him.

Timothy spent his life dedicated to providing care and compassion as a Respiratory Therapist in the healthcare industry. His commitment to helping others was evident in every interaction, and he went above and beyond to ensure the well-being of his patients. His vocation was not just a job; it was a calling that he embraced wholeheartedly.

A graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree, Timothy was not only a knowledgeable professional but also an avid lover of the great outdoors. His passion for fishing and nature provided him with a sense of peace and joy that he shared with family and friends. His love for animals was palpable, and his canine daughter, Willow, was a testament to his nurturing spirit.

Timothy was a beautiful soul who had the unique ability to brighten the days of those around him. His laughter and kindness left a lasting impact on everyone he came in contact with, and he was a source of strength and love for his family. He is survived by his cherished son, Christopher, and daughter, Merissa, who will carry on his legacy of love and compassion. He is also survived by his beloved sisters, Candy, BJ, and Ruth, and his brother, David, all of whom will miss him deeply.

Tragically, Timothy was preceded in death by his dear son, Jason Smith, and his brother, Richard Smith, as well as his devoted parents. The loss of these family members weighed heavily on his heart, yet he remained a steadfast figure for his surviving loved ones.

A private funeral service will be held to honor Timothy’s life and the love he shared with others. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages those wishing to honor Timothy’s legacy to consider making a donation to a charity of their choice, as he was a man who believed deeply in giving back to the community.

Timothy M. Smith will be remembered not only for his professional accomplishments but for the love he radiated and the lives he touched. As we celebrate his life, let us carry forward the lessons he taught us about kindness, compassion, and the importance of cherishing our loved ones. May he rest in peace, embraced by the love of his family who have gone before him, and may his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.

I met Tim in Respiratory Rehabilitation where we groused together through the exercises. Tim wasn’t good at grousing, he smiled told jokes and greeted each patient as they straggled in. Tim has been missed from the group and will continue to be in our thoughts and prayers.

I first met Tim in the late 70’s. We worked together at Winn Dixie in the produce dept. then again at Fort Myers Community Hospital. We hit it off from the beginning. Tim always made everyone laugh, was kind, and considerate of others.
Loved helping people and had a special place in his heart for his four legged friends.
    I will always remember
    You my friend.

I love and miss you so much Uncle Tim. Who else is going to tell me corny dad jokes and make fun of Mom with me now? I know that you are no longer in pain and are with Grandma and Uncle Ricky. Just as I know you do, I know that you are and will always be greatly missed. Until we see each other again, I love you.

Tim was a very loving and caring father and man. I wasn't close with him until later in his life but the time that I knew him he was a great friend.
