Obituary
We are sad to announce the passing of our beloved father and husband, Valentin Burgos, on January 27, 2023. He passed away after a yearlong battle with cancer.
Val is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Aira Burgos (aka Pinky), his son Mark Burgos, daughter-in-law Robin and grandson Zachary Burgos of Union, NJ, daughters Valerie Burgos of Tenafly, NJ, Jenny Burgos of Jersey City, NJ, and three his three sisters, Ester Romero, Marta Rodriguez, and Nelly Stoner.
Val was born October 13, 1937, in Ponce, Puerto Rico. After retiring as a longshoreman from ACL in Port Elizabeth, Val and Pinky relocated from Nutley, NJ to Flagler Beach, FL where they enjoyed a 22-year retirement together.
Val was a charming, kind, and humorous soul who loved his family and friends dearly. He enjoyed traveling, tinkering, singing, raw oysters, dominoes, ranchero music, and his beach. In retirement, he took to walking, tennis, and fishing the Atlantic from Flagler Beach. He made many friends and acquaintances while waiting for the poles to bend with his lunch.
According to his very specific wishes, Val chose to be cremated with no viewing or religious remembrances. He will be distributed into his favorite bodies of water near Flagler Beach, Puerto Rico, and Kauai, HI. He specifically requested a festive party to memorialize his good life. This will occur with family and friends on February 25th from 12:00pm to 3:00pm, at 3600 South Ocean Shore Blvd, Flagler Beach, FL on the 1st floor. Sharing of memories, dancing, dressing for the beach, lobbing of tennis balls, smiles and laughter were his requests; only tears of joy will be Val approved. Another celebration will be held in New Jersey later this year. Otherwise, he said to tell everyone that he’s gone fishing.
