Obituary
Our beloved father Victor Washkevich, formerly of Rocky Hill, New Jersey, made his transition to spirit on Friday, September 30, a day after his 92 birthday. He passed peacefully.
Dad was a born and bred New Yorker, the only child of Russian/Ukrainian and Polish immigrants who owned grocery / delis in NYC for many years. Dad graduated from Textile High School in Manhattan, then earned his B.A. at NYU. He also earned a Masters Degree in Communications from Boston University.
He met the love of his life, our mother Olga, in New York City, and they married there shortly afterwards. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in May. Dad served in the US Air Force for four years during the Korean War. He was on the diving team in the Air Force and was an accomplished diver.
He worked in the Big Apple for decades writing ad copy at various agencies. He was also a writer / contributor for The NY Times Metropolitan Diary for years, sharing his heart warming tales of growing up in the city. He traveled extensively while writing for Air France in the 1960s, Tahiti and Greece were among his favorite places.
He loved his family deeply. We all lived for many years in Rocky Hill, New Jersey where dad loved the peaceful small town. He was the auctioneer for several years at the annual Rocky Hill bid n buy. Dad was always the optimist, he would say “you can only look forward.”
He is survived by his wife Olga of 70 years, his daughter Kathryn, son Michael, daughter in law Lee, son Peter, and grandson Joseph. He will be laid to rest in Rocky Hill in the spring.
Daddy, you’re greatly missed. We love you more than you’ll ever know. Until we meet again, Rest In Peace
I love you to the moon and back
Always
Forever
Love never dies!
