Obituary
Wallace R. Heggemeier, age 81 of Aurora, IL passed away in Ocala, FL on Friday, March 12th, 2021 due to post-surgery complications. He was born on May 9th, 1939 in Peoria, IL the son of Milbert and Marian (Miller) Heggemeier. He graduated from East Peoria High School in 1957 and later went on to graduate from Aurora College. Wally married his high school sweetheart, Sandra White, on July 2nd, 1960 and they enjoyed 60 wonderful years together. He and Sandy are members of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Aurora, IL. Wally joined Caterpillar Tractor Co. in 1959, as a machinist apprentice, and retired after 39 years of increased management responsibilities.
Wally remained active during his retirement and some of his favorite things to do were making keepsake furniture in his basement for family and friends, golfing or playing cards with his dearest lifelong friends, or watching his beloved “Cubbies” win a World Series. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family, from chaotic fishing vacations in Wisconsin, to hosting annual Christmas Eve family celebrations by the fire and many impromptu poolside cookouts on weekends.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Heggemeier of Aurora, IL; his four children, Theresa (Gary) Maciejewski of Knoxville, TN, Douglas (Camille) Heggemeier of Greenville, SC, Todd (Dana) Heggemeier of Joliet, IL, Michelle (Christopher) Clark of Weldon, IL; his three grandchildren, Steven Maciejewski, Samantha Maciejewski, Andersen Heggemeier; and one great-grandson, Logan Maciejewski. He was preceded in death by his father, Milbert Heggemeier, mother, Marian Heggemeier and sister Kay Reagan.
A Celebration of Life will be planned in the coming months in his hometown of Aurora, IL. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org).
