Obituary
Walter J. Galvanek Jr., 76, passed away on January 22, 2022 in The Villages, FL.
Surving Walt is his wife of 23 years, Elaine Bowen Galvanek, his daughter Laura Galvanek Carmichael, stepdaughter Kelly Quigley Zsiga, and four grandchildren all of whom were so very loved by their Pop Pop. Walter is also survived by his brother Martin “Buddy” Galvanek, sister-in-law Daisy Galvanek, nephews Martin and Jeffrey Galvanek and sisters-in law Valerie Aniskiewicz and Renee Mitchell.
Walter was born on August 31, 1945, in Rahway, New Jersey to the late Anne Zanat Galvanek and Walter J. Galvanek Sr. He graduated from Carteret High School in 1964 and was a Supply and Armor Specialist in the United States Army Reserves.
In addition to his family, Walt had a special place in his heart for the greyhounds he and Elaine rescued- first Maggie Mae, then Holly- and years of loyalty and unconditional love both dogs brought to their home.
Walter worked at Exxon/Infineum as a Process Technician from 1977 until 2005 and was a long-time resident of both Carteret and Howell, New Jersey before retiring to Florida in 2016.
He was an avid sports fan and always watched the NY Yankees and the NY Giants on TV, but especially loved going to hockey games at Madison Square Garden to cheer on his NY Rangers in person. Walt enjoyed card games, bowling, belonged to Pine Ridge Social Club and loved playing golf with family and friends.
Walter Galvanek was simply a good man. He was a loving husband and a family man with a generous heart, a contagious laugh and always a big hug. His family will miss him beyond words and will forever feel his loss in our hearts.
A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor on a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you keep Walt in your prayers.
We will love you forever Dad/ Pop Pop.
