Walter James Haslam, 92, of Ormond Beach, FL, passed away peacefully on January 27th, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his three daughters.
Born on December 22, 1932, in Jersey City, NJ, Walter excelled in his classes and sports, most notably, football and golf. Upon graduation from high school, he was offered three scholarships: one each for Yale, Harvard, and Muhlenberg College. He started at Yale, but then chose to transfer to Muhlenberg, a small college in Allentown, PA. He graduated from Dental School at Temple University and served two years in the Navy. He was a man who always wanted to make people happy with song and humor. One of his lifelong friends described him as knowing “10,000 songs”, and Walter would never hesitate to break into song when any stray word would remind him of one. He liked sharing his stories and making people laugh. He had a brilliant mind and loved solving complicated puzzles. Walter was kind and generous and he always put family first. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Walter is survived by daughters, Margie Fieldus (Joe), Sue Haslam, Carol Harp (Kevin), and granddaughters, Shannon Drummond and Samantha Sanders, a sister-in-law, Patricia Nesfeder, a nephew, David Nesfeder (Heather), and was preceded in death by his Spouse, Madeline Haslam.
A celebration of Walter’s life will be held on June 14, 2025, at a location to be determined in Ormond Beach, FL.
