She married Hugh Terry Appleby in December 1963 and they lived in Miami FL until 1972 before relocating to DeLand FL until 1992. They had three children. She later resided in Naples FL with her former husband, Aaron Bullard, and she returned to DeLand in 2019 to be near family. Wanda was predeceased by her beautiful daughter, Diana Elaine Appleby, her sister Brenda Booth Vale, and her parents, Ethel Gertrude Barnes and Clarence Jack Booth.
She had a gregarious & fun-loving personality and always made people around her laugh. She made friends everywhere she went, and she never met a stranger. Wanda was a loving mother and a homemaker during her children’s formative years. Family and friends were her passion and happiness.
Like her mother before her, Wanda was a remarkable cook and enjoyed preparing meals for everyone, most especially over the holidays. For many years, she endeavored to create her own family cookbook from recipes she made and those passed on from prior generations of fantastic family cooks.
Her other interests included gardening, sewing, reading, making floral arrangements, and listening to Elvis. She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members, including her own mother until her passing in 2002. She was an active member of the community for many years in the Business and Professional Women’s Club of DeLand and Junior Women’s Club of DeLand where she won multiple awards, including the Workhorse of the Year.
All who loved her dearly will never forget her tenacity, wit, charm, laughter, and undying love and caring for them. She was a strong and determined woman who will always be treasured. A private family celebration of her life will be held on March 13, 2021 at Baldwin Brothers Funeral Home in New Smyrna Beach FL.
