Obituary

Wayne E. Hamilton, Sr was 91 years old and passed away on November 18, 2025 in The Villages, FL.  Wayne was born in Enigma, Georgia.

Before he ever became a husband, a father, or a coach, Dad was a young sailor with the US Navy during the Korean War. The sea carried him farther than he ever imagined—across oceans, into distant ports, and through moments that shaped the man he would become. He rarely talked about the hard parts, but he loved sharing the funny stories: the pranks pulled on shipmates, the unexpected friendships, the strange foods he tried, and the countries he never would have seen otherwise. Those tales, retold with a grin and a glimmer in his eyes, were proof of the adventure that lived in him long before life settled into familiar shores.

Married Betty on January 24, 1959 and in his early years at home, that same energy translated into the way he raised his boys and daughter. Dad was never one to stand on the sidelines. When his sons joined a team, he jumped in as coach—whistling commands and cheering them on.

As time moved forward, he found another calling in the Shriners. Among their laughter, camaraderie, and mission of helping others, he discovered a second family. He poured himself into the work with the same steady dedication he once gave to the ballfields, always leading with quiet strength and a generous heart.

When he wasn’t serving, he was out on the water or beneath a canopy of trees. Boating gave him freedom—the hum of the motor, sunlight dancing on the water, and the horizon always inviting him forward. Camping gave him peace—crackling fires, crisp mornings, and the comfort of family gathered close.

Through all of life’s chapters, he held one role above all: husband. For 57 years, he and Betty walked through life side by side, raising three children and building a home filled with laughter, love, and the kind of memories that never fade.  Next, the joy of four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.  When Betty passed, a quiet part of him went with her, yet he carried on with the strength she always admired.

Dad’s life was made of seasons—sailing, coaching, serving, exploring, loving—but through every one, his compass stayed true. He lived with purpose, gave with generosity, and left behind a legacy as steady and enduring as the man himself.

Graveside service will be Friday, December 12, 2025 1:30 PM at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.  In lieu of flowers, the family recommends memorials be sent to Honor Flight Network, or Tunnel to Towers Foundation.  Arrangements entrusted with BALDWIN BROTHERS Funeral & Cremation Society-Spanish Springs, 352-430-1449.  Sentiments are encouraged at www.baldwincremation.com.
