Obituary

Willard C. Horn Sr. “Willie” (82) went home to the Lord on August 31, 2021. Carol Jean Reed Horn (75) led the way home to the Lord on August 30, 2021, they both were of Lake Helen, Florida.

Willie was born August 20, 1939, in Jackson County, Indiana, to Gertrude and Everett Horn. He grew up in Chicago Illinois where he met the love of his life Carol. Willie served in the U.S. Army with great honor and respect for his country. He served in Vietnam as an artillery man. He loved to bowl and his high score of 279 certainly demonstrated how good he was. He was a volunteer for many years at Volusia Pines Elementary School working tirelessly at supplementing students reading proficiency and making math fun. He also volunteered with Council on Aging for Volusia and Flagler Counties, and WAVA Hall calling bingo and assisting with feeding elderly & shut-in folks for many years.

Carol was born to Jack and Edith Reed in Chicago, Illinois. Carol loved to crochet, paint ceramics and all sorts of coloring. She would spend hours creating pictures. She volunteered and was passionate about creating a memorable Vacation Bible School experience for children planting seeds and showing them the love of Jesus.

Carol & Willie are survived by their son Willard Jr., and daughter Theresa Watson, grandchildren and great grandchildren, dear friend Virginia Huston, cousins, nieces and nephews. They loved and cherished their cats “Bit Bit”, “Baby” & “Scochi”.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Edith and Jack Reed, Son Duane, and Daughter Diane.

Willie was preceded in death by his loving wife Carol, daughter Diane, son Duane, parents; Gertrude and Everett Horn, brothers; Steven, John Boyd, and Everett Jr, and sister, Carol.

Carol & Willie were married 54 years and have never been apart. As sad as we are for the loss, we know they are together as they both wanted.

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Council on Aging of Volusia County, 420 Fentress BLVD. Daytona Beach, Florida 32114 or Sender’s Retreat 1270 Orange Camp Road Deland, Florida. Both programs allowed them to live their life to the fullest. They have been laid to rest at Canaveral National Cemetery.

A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later time due to Covid.  Please take a moment to listen to the song that brought peace and a smile to both Willie & Carol as they were passing.
