Obituary

William “Bill” Franklin Miller Jr., 70, of New Smyrna Beach, FL, peacefully joined our Lord on June 22, 2013. A memorial service and celebration of Bill’s life will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, July 12, 2013 at St. Peter the Fisherman Episcopal Church, in New Smyrna Beach, FL. The Reverend Jim Spencer will be officiating. A reception will follow on the church’s deck overlooking the meditation garden. Bill was born in Canton, Ohio on April 15, 1943. He played quarterback for Wooster High School and graduated from Seacrest High School in Delray Beach, FL, where he made All American Football player. He continued on to receive a B.S. degree in Business Administration from the University of Florida; MBA program at the University of Arizona. Bill was married to Sherry in 1988 in Valle Crucis, NC and shared 25 happy years together. In 1970, Bill became active in politics and was elected Deputy Mayor and Mayor of Boca Raton, FL and was instrumental in the founding of programs for the youth and preservation of the beaches. He was an officer and member of several civic organizations, including the Rotary and Lions club. Bill’s entrepreneurial and professional endeavors included restaurant ownership, retail stores, real estate, stock brokerage, and executive sales positions. In 1988, Bill and Sherry moved to North Carolina, where they founded, owned and operated a log cabin construction and rental business. Semi-retiring to Florida in 2000, they joined  St. Peter the Fisherman Episcopal Church, where Bill served as the Jr. Warden. He was also appointed to the Edgewater Planning and Zoning Board. Bill was an avid Gator fan, amazing cook, skilled craftsman, and enjoyed many outdoor adventure pursuits throughout his life including hunting, camping, fishing, and riding motorcycles. Beloved husband, father, and friend, Bill found most joy in sharing life’s moments with his family and friends. Always donning a mischievous grin and twinkle in his eye, he sought every opportunity to make people smile, have fun, and feel welcome. Bill is survived by his wife Sherry, son Scott Miller (Sue); daughters Deanna Livorsi (Dan), Michelle Counce (Chris), Tyrelle Barnes (Richard), and Tracey Jones; grandchildren Gregory, Daniel, Bradley, Sophia, Finley, Virginia, William, Ryan and Lainey; sister Marilyn Davison (Fenton); brother Jim Miller (Jill); nieces Katie Chastain (John) and Marianne Sauls (Tim); great-nephews Jack and Davis; great-nieces Allie and Sara Miller. Bill is preceded in death by parents William Franklin Miller Sr. and Barbara Caldwell Miller. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given in Bill’s name to: St. Peters the Fisherman Episcopal Church, Pastors Discretionary Fund 4212 Saxon Drive New Smyrna Beach, FL 32169     A memorial service and celebration of Bill’s life will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, July 12, 2013 at St. Peter the Fisherman Episcopal Church, in New Smyrna Beach, FL. The Reverend Jim Spencer will be officiating. A reception will follow on the church’s deck overlooking the meditation garden.

    Don’t know if this will get to his family or not but it’s worth a try. I think he is my father. I don’t want anything. I’ve been looking for him since I was a teenager. I’m 42 now.     Sherry - Just to let you know that I am thinking of you. I never met your husband but he must have been special. I hope you and your family find peace in his passing and knowing he is free from pain.
