Obituary
William (Bill) Francis Moriarty, Jr., died peacefully on October 30, 2021 after a brief stay in the
Cardiac Care Unit, Advent Health-Daytona Beach, surrounded by his family. Bill lived a very full life
beginning June 26, 1947 in Lowell, MA as the eldest child of William and Olga (Piekarski). In 1961,
he came to Miami, attended Christopher Columbus HS. Graduated from University of South Florida
(1969) and was a member of Tau Epsilon Phi. Bill served proudly in the U.S. Army (1970-1976)
during the Vietnam War Era. In 1980 graduated from Florida International University with a MPA.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Donna (Sabio), daughter Christina, son Steven,
grandchildren Bryan and Megan. Siblings, Richard, Paul (Mary Pat), Anne (deceased), Mary Barreto,
and Joan. Nieces and nephews, John Patrick, Morgan, Eric, Danielle, and Tim. He took very good care
of us and is loved and greatly missed by all.
Bill worked for Miami-Dade County government 1974-2007. He coached football with the West
Kendall Optimists, served as Club President in 1987. He had a passion for sailing and the water. Bill
became a Storm Trysail member in 2011, appointed Southern Station Fleet Captain (2016-2021). Bill
volunteered many years with the Biscayne Bay Regatta Committee managing the Gate. Also, he
enjoyed numerous sailing trips in Florida, the Bahamas and abroad.
In 2014, Bill retired to Edgewater, FL, where he enjoyed boating and helping people in the community.
Baldwin Brothers, New Smyrna Beach handled the arrangements for cremation. There will be a
celebration of life later in 2022.
