Obituary

William Hale McCormick (92) of Oak Run, Ocala, Florida, passed away peacefully July 21, 2021 at the E.W. & Lucille Cates House (Hospice).  He was predeceased by his sister, Joanne (McCormick) Frantum, his parents, John “Bill” and Ruthellyn (Ward) McCormick, wife, Sue B. McCormick, wife, Mary (Baumann) McCormick, great granddaughters Megan Love and Rachel Love.

He is survived by his children from his marriage to Janice Huppuch Disley: Sandra (McCormick) Powell (Billy), Larry McCormick (Joanne Getty), Betsey (McCormick) Soulsby, and Kathy McCormick; his sister Mary V. McCormick; seven grandchildren: Ray Love (Sheila), Jackie Powell, Andrew Soulsby (Jackie), Tessa Soulsby, Tammy Lusk, Shane Nelson; eleven great grandchildren:  Ricky Love (Shey), Coleman Love, Lauren and Austin Shutt, Raelyn, Kendall, and Taylor Soulsby, Marley Hott, Jacob and Hutson Nelson ; nieces and nephews:  Kim Pierce, Jennifer Miller (Mark), Todd Frantum (Trina), Drew Frantum (Sandra); grandnieces and nephews:  Misty Frantum, Madison Hollifield, Miller Voigt, Leila, Patrick and Lucy Pierce, Natalie and Ridges Miller;  great grandniece: Isla Voigt;  great grandnephew: Wiley Voigt.

Born August 16, 1928 in Washington, DC, Bill/Mac/Hale graduated Washington-Lee High School, Arlington, VA, served in the U.S. Naval Reserves, worked for C & P Telephone (AT&T) for 36 years, retiring in 1984.  He and Sue moved full time to their ‘farm’ in Shenandoah, VA where they continued renovations while enjoying the rural life.  They moved to Ocala in 1988, developed new friendships in Oak Run, enjoyed golfing, traveled nationally and internationally until Sue’s passing in 1993.  Mac married Mary Braumann in 1998.  They enjoyed Oak Run friends and activities until her passing in 2008.

At his 90th birthday celebration, Dad entertained us with stories from his genealogy research –about relatives both illustrious and not so illustrious.  Many thanks to neighborhood friends for their interest, visits and contacts over the years.  Thanks also to special friend, Marilyn Smith.

A family memorial service and celebration of life will be held at a later date.  Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Marion County, 3231 SW 34th Avenue, Ocala, FL  34474.
