Obituary
William DeWitt Harrison “Bill”, 91, of Ormond Beach, FL, was received into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior, with his family by his side, on May 9th, 2022. Bill was born in West Virginia to William and Orpha Harrison. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Iva Lou Barclay, brother Franklin Harrison, and his niece.
After 31 years of working for Daytona Linen, he retired and worked seven years for 1st Baptist Ormond (Riverbend) and ten years for the Volusia County School Board. He spent many years as a deacon, bus driver for bus ministry, and as a leader for Royal Ambassadors in his church. During the Korean conflict, SFC Harrison was assigned to the U.S. Army artillery fighting in N. Korea. He was a member of Ormond Strong, a military and veteran support group.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Marie of 64 years, and his daughter, Lisa Hiatt (Gary), his beloved grandchildren, Major Tyler Harrison Hiatt, U.S. Air Force (Maite) and Savannah Marie Hiatt, and two great-grandchildren, Elaina and Melia Hiatt. He loved all of his dogs and grand-dogs.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Riverbend Community Church on Saturday, May 21st, 2022, at 11:00 AM, with Fellowship to follow, 2080 W. Granada Blvd., Ormond Beach, FL 32174. Military graveside services have already been held at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery.
In lieu of fresh flowers, potted plants for memorial garden or donations may be given to Journey’s End Animal Sanctuary (Deland), Riverbend Mission’s Fund, or the USO.
