Obituary

William “Bill” Earl Lawson, 72, of The Villages, FL, passed away in his home on November 10, 2023 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was born in Urbana, OH, February 18, 1951. He graduated from Mechanicsburg High School in 1969 where he was a standout athlete in multiple sports. Bill exceled in baseball, basketball, and football. Bill married his high-school sweetheart, Cynthia (Oyer) Lawson, in 1971. He was a proud graduate of The Ohio State University where he received his Bachelor’s degree in 1973.

Bill was incredibly generous to friends, loved ones, and new acquaintances. He took great joy in offering his time and resources whenever he could. He was equally competitive. Whether it was double-bid euchre, golf, or even Wordle, he wanted to “shoot the moon.” He explored many hobbies. He delighted in writing poetry. Bill was a skilled poker player and knew how to size up a bet on just about anything. He held a lifelong passion for firearms and target shooting. He and Cindy enjoyed skeet shooting together. You might not know unless you attended his daughter’s wedding, but Bill was as fleet-footed on the dance floor as he was on the football field. He and Cindy were happy on the dance floor together and won several competitions. Bill loved to be out on the golf course. He enjoyed leisure rounds with friends and family as well as traveling to tournaments. Bill invited friends, family, and colleagues to join him as he shared his love for the game.

Bill enjoyed a long career in maintenance engineering at large manufacturing plants. He was fortunate to find good friends in his coworkers and spoke fondly of his time at Mac Tools, Alcoa, and Abbott Laboratories. He retired from Hospira in Cheektowaga, NY.

Upon retirement, Bill enjoyed more time at the target range, time with family, home remodeling, and playing more rounds of golf. The family mourns a great loss but is grateful for all of the wonderful memories. His influence lives on.

Bill is preceded in death by his mother, Kathryn Anne (Edwards) Lawson; father, William Cecil Lawson; sisters, Kathy (Lawson) Brannon; and Brenda (Lawson) Rice. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia (Oyer) Lawson; daughter, Dr. Courtney Johnson, son-in-law, Dr. David Johnson; granddaughters, Charlotte Johnson; and Caitlin Johnson.

Honoring his request, there will be no funeral service. Please think of Bill the next time you are out on the golf course or in the casino. Arrangements entrusted with BALDWIN BROTHERS Funeral & Cremation Society-Spanish Springs, 352-430-1449. Sentiments are encouraged at www.baldwincremation.com.
