Obituary

William James (WJ) Morgan passed away on January 23, 2021, in Sarasota, Florida, after a long battle with heart disease, he was 84.

 

He was born April 9, 1936, in Harrison, TN. He was predeceased in death by his parents Latt Walter and Beulah Ann (Scoggins) Morgan, sister Addie Mae, brother Ronnie Hughes Morgan.

 

He is survived by his wife Phebe.

 

WJ graduated from Tyner in 1954, and attended the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga. He was offer a position in the Navy Department in Washington, DC in 1957. He retired in 1991, as the supervisor of computer operations.

 

He was a member of the John Sevier Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution, and a member of the First Families of Tennessee. Both he and his wife were very interested in genealogy and he could trace his roots back to 1617 in Virginia. In 2003, they located the grave of James Davis, a Revolutionary War soldier, who was buried in Hamilton County. His Chapter held a grave marking in 2003. He was elected twice, without opposition, to the Republican Executive Committee in Sarasota, and was very active in Republican politics.

 

WJ and Phebe loved to travel and especially cruises. He enjoyed golf and played wherever they went on vacation. He was passionate about the Lady Vols basketball and softball.

 

He will be buried in the Scoggins Family Cemetery in Harrison at a later time.
