Obituary
William Joseph (Bill) Netzer, aged 77, passed away at his home in New Smyrna Beach on July 14, 2020. Bill was born on July 4, 1943 in Essington, Pennsylvania, to Joseph and Mae (Emsley) Netzer. He served as a Machinist’s Mate Class Third Class in the U.S. Navy in VietNam, on the U.S.S. Ogden and U.S.S. DeHaven, and received the VietNam Service Medal and National Defense Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1968. He received his Bachelor’s Degree, and worked for Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Lester, Pennsylvania before relocating to Orlando, Florida in1986. He retired from Westinghouse as the Employee Relations Manager in 1997 with over 30 years of service.
Bill was the captain of the Ridley High School wrestling team, and loved being at the beach, fishing, running, working out and spending time with his family each year at Lake Gaston, North Carolina. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Lynda (Kessler); his son, James Netzer (Wes); his sister, Caroline Netzer Penny (Jack); and his brother, Albert Netzer. He is also survived by 18 nieces and nephews, 4 great nieces, and other extended family members.
Bill is preceded in death by his mother, father, and sister, Margaret Netzer DeMaio.
A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, July 29 at 12:00 pm at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 4000 S. Atlantic Avenue, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32169. Burial will be private.
