Obituary

William “Bill” Lloyd Palmer was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.  He passed away on June 29, 2022 at the age of 74 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by loved ones.

He was born to Lloyd and Florence Palmer on June 19, 1948 in Argonne, Wisconsin.  He was the baby of the family with 5 older sisters:  Celeste, Gigi, Beth, Sue, and Sally.  After graduating high school, he attended the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater for undergraduate and master’s degrees, spending a year teaching in between.  For the next 30 years, he worked as an assistant superintendent of business affairs for 10 and then 20 years in two different school districts.  His career started in Sun Prairie, WI where he met the love of his life, Peggy.  They played tennis and went to church on their first date.  In 1975, they married and later welcomed 3 daughters:  Christy, Jessie, and Meagan.  They raised their family in Stevens Point, Wisconsin until retirement when they escaped to sunny, warm Leesburg, Florida in 2006.  He was a proud Papa to 6 grandchildren.

Bill was known for his fun-loving sense of humor, jovial spirit, and home-cooked meals.  He made friends wherever he went, striking up conversations with acquaintances and strangers alike.  In addition to cooking, Bill loved spending time with family and friends, taking walks, playing tennis, playing cards, watching sports, detailing his vehicles, enjoying time outdoors, swimming in his pool, and going to the beach.  He played tennis as long as he could after his cancer diagnosis and cribbage regularly until his last few days.  He worked hard and played hard.  One would never find him sitting on the couch, unless he was asleep!

Bill’s faith and love of family kept him strong until the end.  We take comfort in knowing he is at peace with his Heavenly Father now.  We are all blessed that he was in our lives.  He will be missed greatly and he will continue to impact our lives daily.

There will be a funeral mass at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Leesburg, Florida at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 19th.  On August 13th, a Celebration of Life in honor of Bill will be held in Northern Wisconsin.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
