WILLIAM “BILL” LEHMANN
1930 – 2017
LEHMANN, William Rudolph
Of Deland, FL – formerly Franklin, NC- passed on in his 87th year on September 19, 2017. Bill was born in Philadelphia, PA March 02, 1930 to the late Rudolph Lehmann and Martha Lehmann (Suttor). Bill served time state-side in the US Army as an artillery instructor. He later moved from Pennsylvania to Florida to establish his own business, W.R. Lehmann Co. selling electronics primarily to NASA until their space program was scaled back. After positions with companies selling single engine airplanes, teaching flying lessons and selling agricultural equipment, he was an engineer for Martin Marietta, now Lockheed Martin until his retirement. Bill and his wife, Theresa, who he affectionately called “Schatz” moved to their dream home in Franklin, NC in the Smoky Mountains. They were both volunteer hosts at the Smoky Mountain Visitor Center for many years. Bill also continued to work many tax seasons as a favorite tax preparer with HR Block for many returning clients. After 24-plus years, they relocated near family in Central Florida almost two years ago. Bill was a talented skater and dancer in earlier years. He enjoyed wood carving, word puzzles and reading many books about the culture and symbolism of Native American Indians. A man with a warm heart, calm voice and humor that pleased all, he was always a gentleman and was beloved by his wife, family and friends. He will be sorely missed and loved forever. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Theresa Lehmann; his son, William Karl Lehmann (Deanna P. Dannels, PHD) of Raleigh, NC; his daughter, Martha Lydia Pace of Orlando, FL; his seven grandchildren: Will, Hunter and Emma Grace Lehmann, Anna Pace and Andy, David and Katie Wold; his three great-grandchildren: Isaac, Liam and Aurora; his seven step-children, numerous step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren. A memorial service with visitation will be held on Mon., October 2, 2017 at 10:30 AM at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1600 S. Orlando Ave., Winter Park, FL. There will be a short service at a pavilion within Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, FL. Family and friends will not be present at time of interment per National Cemetery program. Bill’s resting place can be visited late afternoon or on a separate visit. Flowers are welcome; contributions may be sent to Alzheimer’s Association via www.alz.org
