Obituary

Heaven gained a wonderful, big-hearted, small town farm boy with the best sense of humor. It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of William Lee Wagner (Bill) on December 30, 2024. Bill was born to the late Ewald and Olga Wagner in Green Bay, Wisconsin on March 23, 1937. He was by all definitions a hard worker and loyal friend.

He graduated college in 1961 from The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. After graduating, he worked for the federal government in the Social Security Administration for 39 years.

The real magic happened when he wed the love of his life on June 13th, 1964. They shared 60 plus wonderful years together. Bill and MaryEllen went on to have three sons. Fatherhood introduced him to a love for the Boy Scouts. He was a dedicated, loving father, and devoted a lot of his time to being a Boy Scout leader.

The only thing Bill adored more than the Green Bay Packers was his family. He had a passion for sports and loved spending time with friends and family. He never passed up an opportunity to play a hand of cards. His contagious laugh and witty sense of humor earned him the title of beloved grandpa and best friend to many.

Retirement in 2005 brought him to Ormond Beach Florida. Bill was an active member at Lighthouse Christ Presbyterian Church. Bill enjoyed his retirement years playing golf, traveling with his family, and spending time with friends.

He is survived by his beloved bride MaryEllen and loving sons and daughters-in-law; Scott and Heather Wagner (Ormond Beach), Brett and Chrystol Wagner (Belmont NC), Craig and Andrea Wagner (Charlotte NC); nine adoring grandchildren and many loving family members.

His legacy will live on through generations to come, inspiring those who knew him through his kindheartedness, loyalty, and wonderful sense of humor. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday January 19th, 2025, at 1:30 pm at Lighthouse Christ Presbyterian Church in Ormond Beach. In lieu of flowers please consider memorials to Lighthouse Christ Presbyterian Church.

As I read the obituary, I could hear Bill's laugh and that made me smile and also all the good memories of getting together with the "Wagner's and Braatz's" for dinner and Wisconsin 's favorite card game. Cherish your memories. Love Arline

Bill Wagner was a wonderful man with a great sense of humor. We have known Bill and MaryEllen for years. We were golfing buddies with the Nine and Dine Group. Bill was an excellent golfer and a tremondous card player, especially bridge. We saw Bill and MaryEllen several weeks ago at the Cancer Center. We chatted for at least a half hour, and throughout Bill cracked jokes. What a fantastic last memory of a very devout, honorable Christian man.

Bill was a kind and genuine man. His smile and gentle strength will be missed. Our church was blessed to call him friend. He will be missed.

Deepest sympathy. So many memories. The farm, the wedding, just the growing up stuff.
