Obituary

William Webster McCain, Jr., 83, of Port Charlotte, FL, passed away peacefully at his home (with Hospice care) in Port Charlotte, FL, on Friday, June 21, 2024, in the presence of his wife Becky, his daughter Alice, and his son Brian.

William (Bill) was born October 17, 1940, in Hurtsboro, AL, son of the late William Webster McCain and Alice Baker McCain.

Bill is survived by his wife and constant loving companion of 28 years, Mary Rebecca (Becky) Callaham Leisher; his daughter, Alice Lynne McCain from former spouse, Delores (Dee) Humbert (deceased); his grand-son, Jean-Luc Gorritti; his two sons, Jeffrey Louis McCain and Brian Daniel McCain from former spouse, Lou-Jean Brin; his brother, Perry Lamar McCain and wife, Leigh.  He is predeceased by his sister, June McCain Torbert; and his son, William (Billy) Webster McCain III from former spouse, Delores (Dee) Humbert (deceased).

Bill entered the US Navy where they taught him skills in the early field of semi-conductor electronics.  This exposure led him to a career at several companies working in the development of computers used by NASA and in component engineering.

He later completed a Bachelors degree at Lynn University in Boca Raton, FL.

He was a fisherman since he was a child and shared that hobby with his kids.

He was a wonderful gardener and left fruit and nut trees wherever he lived in the state of Florida: West Palm Beach, Ft. Lauderdale, Boca Raton and Port Charlotte.

He was a world class inventor and produced, by hand, musical instruments such as guitars, and electronic items such as radios and computers. His craftsmanship ranged from tiny hand turned wooden vases to furniture, to household renovations.  He loved music and shared that with his family, teaching some us our first guitar chords and singing country and folk songs in harmonies.

Public services are not planned.  His ashes will be interred in the columbarium at Sarasota National Cemetery with military honors.
