Yukie Kay Bowen, 83, of New Smyrna Beach FL died Tuesday, April 6, 2010 peacefully at her home surrounded by her family.
Kay was born in Tokyo, Japan. She came to the US with her husband, the late James Clyde Bowen, Sr. who she met while he was working in Japan. During her early years in their marriage she served as cultural liaison and interpreter at military bases in Japan. She also taught Japanese language arts, dance, music (Koto), Japanese Tea Ceremony and Sumie (Japanese water colors). One of her passions was Ikebana (Japanese flower arranging). In Miami she founded and served as Vice President of Ikebana International Society, Miami Chapter.
Kay moved to New Smyrna Beach in 1993 from Miami. Her children fondly remember her passion for her family. A true matriarch, she was the heart and soul of the family.
She was a member of Coronado Community United Methodist Church in New Smyrna Beach, FL and the BPO Elks Lodge where she enjoyed ballroom dancing.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children James Clyde Bowen, Jr of Gainesville, FL, Kiya (Norman) Yaguda of Lake Mary FL, Mary (Jimmy) Johnston of New Smyrna Beach FL, sister Kikue Oiyama , brothers Koichi and Shunichi Fujisato all of Japan, grandchildren Christopher James Bowen, Noah Alexander Bowen, James Fenwick Bowen, Jaymi Kay Shulz, Morgan Rachel Hotchkiss, Issana Faith Yaguda, and great grandchildren Kayla Ann Shulz and Kyra Michelle Shulz. She was preceded in death by her husband James Clyde Bowen, Sr and grandson Alexander Cook Bowen.
Celebration of Life will be 1:00 PM Sunday, April 11, 2010 at Coronado Community United Methodist Church 200 S Peninsula New Smyrna Beach FL 32169 with The Reverend Bob Brown officiating. (map/driving directions)
I am so sorry for the loss of your beautiful Mother. The memories will always be with you. If you need anything know I am here. Just to vent sometimes helps. Her love will be with you forever!!!!!!!!!
