Obituary
Zilkya (Cora) DeJesus, 82 of Altamonte Springs FL passed away peacefully among loved ones at Hospice of The Comforter on March 19, 2019.
Love by all, Mom to all, Zilkya was born on October 11, 1936 in Arroyo Puerto Rico, moved to Brooklyn NY, then Bethlehem PA, and retired to Altamonte Springs FL.
Always aspiring for knowledge, she was self-taught in many fields, and perused degrees in nursing, accounting, and countless other academics. She was the Executive Secretary to the Director of the Bethlehem Housing Authority. Owned and operated her own personal accounting office, was a public notary, and was an Accountant for 7-Eleven. Aside from a professional career, Zilkya opened her door to any child in need, volunteering as a Foster Parent to court protection cases where a child needed immediate placement for protection. Zilkya was a safe haven in a storm for many young children.
Her years in Florida were spent enjoying day trips, entertaining, and living with her beloved Edward Gerald Gagner Jr. who passed away 4 months earlier. She will be laid to rest with her Eddie at Cape Canaveral in a private family service. A memorial service will also be held in Bethlehem PA.
Zilkya is survived by her daughters: Evelyn Martinez of Fort Lauderdale FL married to Robert Martinez, Maria M Pizarro of Bethlehem PA, Elizabeth Pizarro of Bethlehem PA, Gwendeline Alicea of Bethlehem PA married to Carmelo Alicea, Sisters Nancy La Luz of Bethlehem PA, and Sonya Cora of Orlando FL. Preceded in death by Parents Alejandrina Nieves and Martin Cora Sr., Brothers Reggie Cora Sr. and Martin Cora, 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and a great-great grandchild on the way, all of whom she cherished very much. The family is saying goodbye to beautiful Matriarch.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of The Comforter 605 Montgomery Road, Altamonte Springs, FL 32714.
